Podcasting the Dead and Breaking Bad while going to Hell On Wheels!

I hope all has been well for everyone over the summer, it's been the mildest summer we've seen in a while and I can't complain.....that much. Let me start off by admitting that my Once Upon A Time Peter Pan Theory has been shot to hell, at least partially .  However, the fall is among us and the smell of tailgating and NFL football is among us and I couldn't be happier! Not only that, The Walking Dead is coming back on October 13th and I'm going to be a part of the podcasting community with my homies Kinte and Olaf hosting Talking About Walkers every Monday night at 9/EST. I'm sure everyone has seen the Comicon trailer and if not here you go! This trailer make the first arc look real interesting!

But lets not forget what hits this Sunday at 9pm, Breaking Bad is back baby!!!  Percy Bysshe Shelly's poem Ozymandias fits the rise and eventual fall of Walter White a.k.a. Heisenberg! I couldn't be more excited to see how this story ends!

What makes this weekend even more raw is the two hour season 3 premiere of Hell On Wheels on Saturday!! This is going to be an epic TV weekend! Check this out!!

I left out NFL preseason football on purpose, because it stinks! I'll update the blog after the jump off this weekend and give my thoughts on the shows! Feel free to leave your own feedback!

My Once Upon A Time Theory from the season 3 finale!

I think it's a possibility that Peter Pan was actually Felix the one who said “It may take time, but Peter Pan never fails.” at the end of the show, he could have just been speaking in the 3rd person about himself. Remember when the Lost Ones were searching the ship and Felix warned Hook who was "new to this land" of what "He" does to people who lie to him. Hook responded by saying "I gather it hurts" and Felix responds by saying "it does" and telling him about the pain associated with having your shadow "ripped right from your body". How would Felix know if it was painful unless it happened to him? Maybe he's Peter Pan and that was his shadow that was trying to take the Darling boys and Bae to Neverland. I have a feeling there is someone who is more diabolical in the wings and it's not Peter Pan. On Hooks ship when Mr. Gold said Tamara and Greg were just pawns and there was a power they couldn't comprehend, Emma asks him who and Gold didn't say Peter Pan, he just said nothing. Lets be real, Peter Pan just doesn't seem like a character Mr. Gold would be scared of. It would be awesome if Peter Pan was right in our faces the whole show, and the show ends with him confirming it and it totally went over most peoples head. Even if it turns out Felix is not Peter Pan, I still think the shadow belongs to him. This shows going to make my head explode! You can watch the episode here on ABC's website.

New Years Eve 2013 comes in with a Nola BLAST!

As my mind settled in from pre NewYears eve festivities, the crew and I headed out to enjoy Nola's cuisine and vibes before the fireworks at midnight. We decided to have some drinks at a dive bar and then head to the delightful Royal House Oyster Bar to fill the guts before heading to the water to watch the fireworks. Walking to the bar and enjoying artwork in the French Quarter we ran across "The violin lady" on the corner blazing up some inspired tunes that quickly garnered an audience.

After some head bobs, a few tips and smiles, we made our way to the Royal House. During our 15 minute wait to get seated we were treated to a wedding march!

The first thing that blessed the table were the crawfish patties, they were light, flavorful and resting on a lake of house sause. I could have easily eaten four of these po boy style.

Next up was an oldie but goodie, oysters on the half shell in all their brined goodness. This worthy appetizer (or main dish depending on your level of gluttony that day) is accompanied with lemon, horseradish and a spicy house sauce. You won't know whether to laugh or cry with joy, so I recommend you do both and go to town on these goodies.

After some good laughs that were made harder with wine, I played it conservative with the shrimp platter and cole slaw. The shrimp, hush puppies and fries ended up being a great decision because it was good beer drinking food.

And then I realized..

Better get to the main event.

We survived.

2013 arrives in New Orleans.

A sure fire way to have a good time bringing in the new year is in the party city of New Orleans. This city has more good music on the street corner that some places have in their own towns or cities. I mean after a year of politics that ended in one side looking like this:

Glad that's over, now lets talk about the issues we love like good food and good drink in New Orleans!
In a warm up of things to come we got acquainted with the lovely Eudora Welty and Deep Soul at the Balcony Music Club. This is a cozy bar with good people and good vibes, you can easily get caught up in the vibe and totally leave there trashed. Here's a little Deep Soul to cleanse your palette. 

After a little pre New Years Eve music and drink for the soul it's time to hit up the The Irish House Pub and Restaurant  for a Muggivan burger. This burger was pure goodness topped with cheddar, bacon, coleslaw and a fried egg, served with housemade chips.

Look who made and appearance at the Irish House, a gauntlet of Bushmill whisky to wet down that Muggivan. The Bushmill gauntlet from left to right: Bushmills, Bushmills Black Bush, Bushmills Honey, Bushmills 10, Bushmills 16. The Black Bush and Bushmills 16 were my favorites. If you love whisky, treat yourself to a Bushmills and get your head straight!

To say that the night ended pleasantly was an understatement. 

Atlanta Falcons can't get it done against the Giants in the 2012 playoffs.

Apparently the Falcons didn't take heed to my pre-game playoff speech. 

Now were 0-3 in the playoffs and have looked worse in each outing that we've been in the playoffs.

The Falcons are the first team in NFL history to have scored over 400 points in the regular season,

and failed to put up any offensive points to a team that gave up over 400 points in the regular season or playoffs.

Let it be known that anyone calling Matt Ryan "Mattie Ice" should duck, but at least it's a good thing he wears number 2, because he sure plays like number 2 in the playoffs. Matt Ryan's inability (or fear) to step up in the pocket to make a throw, even if it means he has to take one to the chin is hurting this team.   I know, it's probably very intense when 250 to 300 plus pound men are running at you much faster than you can run away, but that's why you get paid a kings ransom to play a game. The run game sucked and lacked any creativity, I mean really, three yards and a cloud of dust running game in the playoffs, what happened to counters, delayed draw plays and the occasional screen pass? I know Ovie is on IR, but really, getting stopped on multiple 4th and 1 situations is inexcusable, especially when on one of those tries Turner was on the sideline, give me a break!!! It's almost like the coaching staff only watched the games the Giants won and did all the plays the Giants were good at defending. With the Atlanta Falcons keep your expectations low, that way anything extra is a bonus. However, I won't think like that, because low expectations isn't a worthy bar when your trying to build something good. I'll keep my head high Atlanta Falcons, but know my eyes will be slanted until I see some creativity, toughness and grit!!!

Ahh yes, the changing of the seasons!

What up ya'll, it's official, the Militant Marker is back in action just in time for the transition into the summer of 2011!  During my self imposed hiatus I was thinking of ways to spice up my blog, so I and have decided to add food adventures, book and movie reviews and of course toy nostalgia. Let's break in this rebirth with a few pics of grub from the the grill leading into the spring. Prawns from the farmers market, lamb sausage, spiced chicken, slaw and grilled leeks! Desert you ask, Absinthe was the weapon of choice...uuuugggghhh.

I'm back and Trolled Out!!

I haven't updated this blog in ages, I admit to laziness and general lack of interest in doing it, but now I'm back! I was just messing around with the Photo booth on the new iMac and figured I would post these wacked out pictures of myself.

I had some ideas for a Dunny I was planning on working on a while back, so i did some sketches of those ideas. I did this sketch over a year ago, so that's the type of motivation I have to get started.

Steam Ticks...

Pesky, itchy and just annoying, these Martian Steam Ticks are the scourge of anything that has blood in its veins wandering the Mars surface. The sole purpose of the critters is to feed and lay eggs. These "bugs" also appear to have a benefit for travelers to Mars. As the ticks feed they emit a breathable gas that benefits humanoid respiratory systems. For people who are on the Mars surface who utilize breathing systems, there have been some companies that have produced space suits that have compartments equipped with the ticks, that can be released into the suits to provide breathable air in an emergency. The process to remove these ticks is very long and can sometimes be fatal, so there are cases where the parasite can't be completely removed, just sterilized so they can't reproduce.

The Militant Marker in Black and White...

This is a self portrait that I whipped up in about 10 minutes last week. I finally got around to inking it, and figured I would post it. As much as I have convinced myself that I can never draw myself accurately, I sketched this out and it seems to do me a toonish justice. Hopefully I'll have it colored in the next week.

What I'm reading....The Zombie Survival Guide

I haven't been as up to par with my reading over the last 6 months or so, so I decided to get back on it to spark some much needed desire and inspiration to get back on track with my own projects. The new title I picked up was The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. The meat of this book offers extensive information on battling and surviving against the living dead (maybe one day this book will come in handy?). The Zombie Survival Guide has been out for a while, but I just never broke down and got it and now that I have it, I realize just how entertaining it is.

I finally got around to finishing up coloring John Henry. I'll will emancipate Paul Bunyan from the realm of black and white as well. Hope ya' likes.

Paul Bunyan

This American lumberjack or (French Canadian depending on what side of the fence your on) is a folk hero of massive proportions to say the least. Paul is said to have had a blue ox named "Babe" who that was to have measured 42 axe handles. and always had a plug of chewing tobacco between his horns (now that some cool stuff!!!). Paul Bunyans physical attributes were truly the things made of legend. He was said to have had a laugh that would shatter windows, it took 17 storks to carry him home when he was born, as well as being able to dig the Grand Canyon just by dragging his axe behind him. Stay "tooned" for Babe and Pecos Bill!!!!!
